WHO IS KRIS?

Kris Kim, 22 years old, is a Korean pianist based in Boston, USA, where he is currently furthering his advanced music education in classical piano at the Longy School of Music – Bard College.

Kris graduated from the Beaksok Conservatory, Korea, where he studied under Yoon Yeo-Won, the renowned concert pianist.

Kris has won three international piano competitions : the Electro Competition in Tokyo (2010), the Teenager Piano Competition in Manchester (2008), and the Youth Romantic Piano Competition in Shanghai (2005).

As an active soloist, he performs regularly with the Civic Orchestra, Kang-Dong-Gu Fusion Orchestra and has performed many recitals in great concert halls in Korea such as the Seoul Coex Auditorium, Gang Dong City Hall and Phoenix Park.

Kris has collaborated with Seo Hye-Kyung (the only Asian who has ever won the world renowned Busoni Competition in Italy), conductor Jung Sung-Su, violinist Lee Young-Shin and celebrity soprano Mrs. Lui.

In addition to his classical performances, Kris is also a music adventurer…he is especially fond of contemporary cross-over music and has arranged piano pieces for four hands.

It is Kris’ passion to bring new ideas and new music interpretations to his audience. The most unusual work he has recently presented is the combination of the most difficult piano repertoire - Brahms’ Paganini Variations and Liszt’s Paganini Grand Etude No.6. This performance premiered at the Beaksok Concert Hall in Korea with his piano duo partner Lee Jae-Jin.

Currently, in Boston, Kris studies with Jung Ja Kim at the Faculty of Boston Conservatory and Eda Mazo-Shlyam at the Faculty of Longy School of Music – Bard College. Kris is a scholar under the programme from the Boston Conservatory and the Longy School of Music – Bard College.
