Keep our orchestra & band’s heartbeat alive
If you’ve been to our concerts, you would have seen a set of big kettledrums at the back.
That is our beloved timpani, a crucial member of any music ensemble.
Not only is it the rhythmic heartbeat driving the music forward, it provides the dramatic build up and climax with its thunderous roll. It’s different from other drums and percussion instruments because you can tune it to specific pitches! So it acts almost like a super glue holding the whole ensemble together, bridging rhythm and harmony.
For the past 20 years, our timpani has been working very hard as the heartbeat of The klpac Orchestra, The klpac String Orchestra, The klpac Symphonic Band and also the Outreach Youth Band.
Like all of us, age catches up. While we plan for our timpani’s retirement due to wear and tear, we need to raise funds for our new timpani which costs RM 130,000 for four drums by 2027.
If you can, consider donating to our Timpani Fund to ensure so that we won’t miss a beat and the music continues to fill klpac for musicians and music-lovers for years to come.
