The klpac Orchestra’s Classical for Kids series is back! Little ones are welcomed to embark on a magical journey of Mozart’s The Magic Flute through this engaging concert.

If you’d like to introduce your kids to classical music but they are not quite ready to sit through a full-length concert, this is your chance.

Tailored for our youngest audiences, The klpac Orchestra’s Classical for Kids concerts are presented in a highly interactive and engaging manner where they get to experience an orchestra up close and get a taste of classical music in a relaxed environment.

We invite them to step into a world of adventure, mystery and music through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s comic opera, The Magic Flute. With the help of a narrator, the little ones are introduced to Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno who set out on a mission to rescue Pamino, the daughter of The Queen of the Night, from the evil Sarastro.

Along the way, the young audiences will chant some spells, root for the characters and pick up a thing or two.

The concert ends with A Meet The Orchestra where kids (and adults!) can get to know more about the orchestra, its musicians and instruments.

Important Note: Floor seating and chair seating available. At least one parent or guardian must accompany a maximum of two children for safety purposes as well as to ensure they get the most out of the experience.

ABOUT About The klpac Orchestra
The notion of a community orchestra is very much in keeping with the vision of The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), which is to foster creative excellence and develop and nurture performing arts culture in Malaysia.

Driven by the obvious need for a community orchestra to cater for the growing number of classically trained musicians, it established its first orchestra in 2006. Following the first auditions in October, The klpac Orchestra debuted in December with “Candelight Christmas” under the baton of the late Mr. Brian Tan, its Founder as well as first Music Director and Resident Conductor.

In setting up the orchestra, klpac hopes to provide enriching and engaging musical experiences for people with varying musical backgrounds, in an environment that promotes fellowship and respect. The founding of The klpac Orchestra provides more opportunities for aspiring musicians, amateur or professional, while helping to promote orchestral music.

Under its Founder’s passionate leadership, hundreds of musicians have been trained and had the chance to perform on a professional stage. After his passing, Dr. Takahisa Ota took over the baton for a short period in 2012 before Lee Kok Leong took on the role in 2015. A few days before Mr. Brian Tan’s passing, the orchestra staged “A Concert for Brian” (October 2011) to a full house to honour their Founder and his life’s work.

The orchestra performs a wide variety of music all year round ranging from classical concerts such as “Czech Impressions” (2023), “Tchaikovsky – The Great Romantic Master” (2022) and “Baroque Elegance” (2022) to popular music like “Magical Movie Moments” series (2017, 2019, 2023), “Unforgettable: Lagenda Malaysia” (2023), “Tunes from the East” (2019) and Sudirman tribute “One Thousand Million Smiles” (2017). It joined hands with klpac’s other music ensembles – The klpac Symphonic Band and The klpac String Orchestra – to perform in “Christmas Extravaganza” (2022) to mark a major comeback after the pandemic closures.

Over the years, the orchestra has had the honour of collaborating with many ensembles and soloists such as pianist Dr. Poom Prommachart, pianist Dr. Elaine Yap Sin Yee, pianist Albert Tiu, violinist Fung Chern Hwei, cellist Valerie Aimard, Wicked Music People and NSO Wind Ensemble.

Outside of klpac, The klpac Orchestra has performed at Claviera Music Studio and UPM Music Department’s “Debonair Malaysia Concert” (2018), “Putra International Piano Competition – Winner’s Gala Concert” (2019) at UPM, “Gemilang Cemerlang Concert” by the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (2023) and Claviera Music Studio’s “Gold Star Competition – Winner’s Gala Concert” (2024).

Resident Music Directors:
Mr. Brian Tan (2006 – 2011)
Dr. Takahisa Ota (2012-2014)
Mr. Lee Kok Leong (2015 – Present)

Fiamma Opera Studio
Founded by Malaysian opera singer YiLing Chaing, Fiamma Opera Studio carries forward the legacy of Pro Musica Penang, established by Datuk Sri Lim Chong Keat. With a mission to harness the universality of music—particularly opera—as a means to nurturing young opera talents aged 16 to 40. Our goal is to bridge the gap between novice and professional, providing rigorous training and high quality productions that elevate the art form.

Our mission is realized through education, engagement, and entrepreneurial outreach initiatives. We believe opera, as one of the most powerful and multidimensional art forms, has the ability to transcend cultural boundaries and connect people through shared emotional and artistic experiences.

Fiamma Opera Studio consists of prize-winning opera singers, music students, and young music professionals, as well as individuals from non-vocal backgrounds who have embraced the challenge of broadening their artistic horizons. Through examinations and certified courses, they pursue opera with passion and dedication. Among them are piano teachers, visual artists, corporate managers, school teachers, and medical professionals—fulfilling the call of “Music is for everyone”.

With the success of their first production, Amahl and the Night Visitors, which was released on Spotify and performed to a full house in Ipoh in 2024, Fiamma Opera Studio continues to grow its presence. In 2025, the studio launches a new production of The Magic Flute, and again celebrate with full hosue in both Penang and Sitiawan—marking a continued commitment to make operatic singing accessible and celebrated across Malaysia. Other than full scale collaboration with various orchestras (Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Musica Sinfonietta, Petaling Jaya Philharmonic Orchestra, Tutan Festival Orchestra), Fiamma Opera Studio singers also provide performance and teaching service at corporate events, graduation ceremonies, weddings, festive and seasonal events, and community outreach programs, bringing the beauty of operatic voice to a wide variety of audiences and occasions. Notably, Fiamma Opera Studio also features versatile singers who have performed as backup vocalists for celebrated artists such as Muzza, Shila Amzah, and Rimar at various events.

In a world where opera is often seen as distant or exclusive, we are committed to redefining it through fresh, contemporary approaches that resonate with younger audiences and the broader public. By incorporating more youth-oriented performance styles and relatable promotional content, we aim to break opera out of its traditional niche and introduce its emotional depth and dramatic beauty to those unfamiliar with the genre.
