ABOUT Birdian Saxophone Quartet
The Birdian Saxophone Quartet was founded in 2000 and has been led by founder/saxophonist Ian Chan Wing Hang. It aims to explore and perform a great wealth of musical treasure on standard classical and contemporary saxophone literature at the highest quality possible. Our mission is to promote interest in and appreciation of classical saxophone music, which is often with little knowledge amongst the general public.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, the Quartet also shares its passion by regularly performing wide-ranging repertoires of light classical, jazz standards, folk tunes, popular and film music at different occasions for charity organisation, community event, band camp and festival. With the goal of educating and inspiring young students, the Quartet also conducts workshops for various school band camps and music festivals throughout Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas.
In 2012, the Quartet initiated “Chamber Wind Project” with five editions to date, featuring distinguished chamber wind ensembles in the region. The project has since received significant recognition in promoting the growth of wind chamber playing to the wider community.
With the foundation of core members from Birdian Saxophone Quartet, Birdian Saxophone Collective was established with an expanded size and broader repertoire for a flexible setting, serving as a collaborative platform for young musicians to showcase their talents.
