Following its first fun-filled outdoor concert last year, The klpac Symphonic Band is back for more fun in the sun and, of course, more great music this April!

If you missed the 2022 edition (or simply couldn’t get enough), save these dates and start packing your picnic mats and gear. No fixed seating, stuffy dress codes or ushers shushing little ones.

Grab a spot under klpac’s giant banyan tree, sing along to familiar tunes such as It’s a Small World and clap along to the Clapping Music. The klpac Symphonic Band musicians will be taking turns to entertain you with toe-tapping tunes and, at the same time, introduce some basic musical knowledge & terminology.

Parents, make your own DIY instruments with your kids using stuff around the house or a quick trip to MR. D.I.Y..

Children, get ready to take part in the music quizzes and games and stand a chance to win fun prizes courtesy of MR. D.I.Y., MR. TOY & MR. DOLLAR.

Admission is free but donations are welcomed.

Music Play Date is part of klpac & The klpac Symphonic Band’s audience development and community outreach efforts.

About klpac Symphonic Band
Soon after the klpac Orchestra was formed, The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) established the klpac Symphonic Band in 2009 which made its debut with “Friendship in Concert”.

Like the other music ensembles under klpac, the klpac Symphonic Band is a community-oriented initiative aimed at providing a platform for wind and brass musicians to hone their skills and perform regularly. It was established to fill a gap in the local music scene where many wind and brass players who started playing during their schooling years were left with no avenue to grow and pursue their interest after leaving school. Its members are musicians and music lovers from different backgrounds and age groups who are admitted based on an audition.

The klpac Symphonic Band has been under the leadership of its Music Director and Resident Conductor Cheryl Mah since 2011. The band’s “Ultimate Music Crawl” concert bagged the “BEST OF 2019” Award at the 17th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2020.

Apart from its sold out “Back to the Classics” concert, the band initiated an all-important Outreach Collaborative Project in 2022 with fellow music educators and over 50 musicians, some from out-of-state, which culminated in a concert entitled “An Uncommon Journey”. On the audience development front, the band also debuted its “Music Play Date” which was an interactive, family-friendly concert held outdoors.
